Cocoon

Cocoon tears open and Woman emerges

with multicolored quilt of soul to

form her imperfect flutterbye wings

Wiping the afterbirth from her eyes

she sings her need to be whole

with tears cleansing her face she throws

open her patch work wings and leaps forward

into abyss of cloudy memories

Delicately balanced between innocence and wisdom

Updraft of freedom catches her

Wings stiff from never being used shudder

as slipstream of need takes her

beyond doubt

She arches her back in ecstacy as

she soars through her mind

dancers feet tucked behind arms

outstretched

She finds jigsaw puzzle

forming substance

Her spirit comes together stitched in

strength and clarity

Rebellious antics spinning

laughter through maze of images

verbal boundaries constructed

to keep her down

fall away in a waterfall of nonsense

Voice echoes her name

back to her with unabashed pride

The metamorphosis is complete

Tinkling chiming words tumble down

She speaks her desires

as this Flutterbye

has finally learned to fly
